Sacred Geometry 101 & The Element Air

Sacred Geometry 101 & The Element Air

This month I am focusing on the alchemy symbol, Air to allow the “breath of life” to revitalize, rejuvenate, and rebirth our mind-body-spirit. The element, Air, represents communication, higher knowledge, greater vision, thoughts, the octahedron (a Platonic solid), and what cannot be seen, only felt. We do not see Air with our physical eyes, but can feel Air leave our lips and notice the inhale through our nose. Also, it is associated with the spirit world, Father Sky, and in Eastern Spirituality Chi or Qi, the life force.

Air is one of five sacred geometric symbols, called an octahedron. The other 4 are: fire, (tetrahedron), water, (icosahedron), earth, (hexahedron or cube), and ether/universe, (dodecahedron). What is sacred geometry? It is the study of shapes and mathematical formulas that appear naturally in nature. This is the foundation for many alchemist.

An octahedron is a platonic solid or polyhedron meaning, poly “many” and hedron “face.” I’m no mathematician, but I find it fascinating that nothing else can be so geometrically perfect, along with seeing naturally occurring sacred symbols in nature. I find it beautiful how geometry synchronizes with nature. If you’re interested in the mathematics behind it continue on. If math and/or history bore you to death, then imagine learning something new and winning a prize in a game of trivia (lol).

To be categorized as a platonic solid each symbol must have the following: be convex, be congruent faces, be congruent corners (vertices), & be a 3-dimensional shape (polyhedron). In other words, every face is the same size, same shape, and they have no dents or indentations in them. The platonic solids were recognized by many Greek philosopher’s and are named after the philosopher, Plato. It was said, that the Egyptians used at least 3 of the symbols as well.

Why is this sacred and unique? “The geometric symbols are visual instruments that can help bring our vibrations into harmony with the rhythms of nature,” author unknown. It allows one to apply universal energy into the physical world through sacred geometry. If you are just beginning to wake up or on the fence about the frequency of Spirituality then look no further. This is confirmation in physical 3D form speaking to you that events are synchronistic and ”everything happens for a reason.”

If these words can bring out any awareness of universal energy, I ask you to contemplate, meditate, and reflect on the elementals, especially Air. Take a long slow breath now, what do you sense in your mind, in your body, in your heart, in your soul? If you already meditate, good on yah, if you have never meditated or are back and forth with it here are a couple exercises. One you can draw, paint, or color the symbol over and over and over again. This can be relaxing to the mind. Another option is to visualize in your mind’s eye, the octahedron (or any of the other 4 geometric symbols) in your meditative practices.
