Well, I am here to tell you everyone is talented, everyone has a unique ability, everyone has a God-given gift. Few take the time to grow and mold their unique abilities, while searching for the next highest paid job or thinking you're not good enough; which may or may not utilize your unique assets. Yes, you are an asset. Yes, you are worth millions and even billions of gold and silver. Yes, you have a specific blueprint that is waiting to be accessed.

What’s holding you back? Are you looking for something outside yourself? Are you searching for the easiest and quickest way to materialize achievement? Do you think you have tried really really hard? Do you think you have failed miserably? Or possibly could there not be enough myelin sheath wrapped around the nerve fiber with a focused intention? Ahh not what you thought I was going to say, aye?

Now before you click off to the next impulse of entertainment there is a point to all of this. We are a human-being that encapsulate the emotional body, the physical body, the mental body, and the spiritual body. In the book, “The Talent Code,” it illustrates very clearly that talent is not something you are born with, but something that you grow and mold. “(1) Every human movement, thought, or feeling is a precisely timed electric signal traveling through a chain of neurons--a circuit of nerve fibers. (2) Myelin is the insulation that wraps these nerve fibers and increases signal strength, speed, accuracy, and velocity. (3) The more we fire a particular circuit, the more myelin optimizes that circuit, and the stronger, faster, and more fluent our movements, thoughts, and feelings become.” -The Talent Code, by Daniel Coyle.

In a simpler way, when we have a thought, an emotion, or do a physical movement, the myelin sheath wraps around the nerve fiber and the neuron fires. Each time a task is done with a focused intention, the more the nerve fires, the more the myelin wraps, the faster, quicker, and stronger we become at that specific task. Isn’t our body a fascinating miracle! It already knows everything we need without asking it to wrap that myelin around our nerve fiber. It simply does it without trying to do it. It is amazing when you step back and see that we already have everything that we need and so much more. We are a miracle in the being! What does all this really mean? That greatness is not born, it is something that takes time and diligence. That to be “talented” does not mean that it is easy or “comes naturally.” Talent is taking the time to practice with a specific focus, a targeted task over and over and over for 10,000 hours to master a skill. This is when talent is manifested exemplifying greatness. Greatness does not exemplify talent. Why? Because to be Great at a skill, first you’ve failed miserably, you’ve messed up, and you’ve made mistakes. The difference lies in recognizing where the mistake happened and then focusing in the right way or with a deep engaged practice. Now imagine incorporating the emotion of joy when you do a specific task. How much faster and quicker you will become at any given skill when you enjoy what you are doing. When you tie in a skill that you enjoy doing, you are more willing to make a mistake and then get back at it. People are not successful by accident or because they are talented. They are willing to make a mistake and keep at it, meanwhile that myelin sheath is wrapping around the nerve fiber and neurons keep firing during that targeted skill.

The reason I wrote this blog is because I’ve had many clients, friends, and acquaintances tell me they can’t do something or more specifically they can’t meditate or they can't lose weight. This couldn’t be further from the truth. What is actually happening is that you have not repeated the task enough times for the myelin sheath to wrap around the nerve fiber for it to become easier and quicker to be in the moment of meditation or to be in the habit of living a healthy lifestyle.
Now given our thoughts can be a tricky thing, especially when we are dealing with a test, a game, an emergency, or a deadline. Imagine you practice a skill over and over, so when that test, game, emergency or deadline happens you will have a higher aptitude for that skill when you're in fight, flight, or freeze mode.
The next time you compare yourself to someone else ask yourself, I wonder how many hours they put in to achieve that skill or task? The next time you judge yourself, ask did I use my time wisely with a precision practice? And if so, how many hours have I put into creating that precise thought, emotion, or physical movement?
